This year we decided to make the most out of the long bank holiday weekend and go camping in Ashbourne, which is located within the Peak District. We arrived on the Friday evening to sunshine and quickly set up the tent and got the barbecue on for dinner! The sunsets in the Peak District in the summer are always gorgeous and the few while we were there were all definitely photo worthy.
The campsite we stayed at was right behind the Tissington Trail so on the second day we walked the few miles down it and into Ashbourne itself. On the way we passed through the Ashbourne Tunnel, which is an old railway tunnel and as you walk through plays sound effects of the old trains that would run through it. I also came across a graffiti of 'Bad Wolf' on the wall, which I thought was pretty cool (the Doctor Who geek within me had to take a photo!). We were also quite near to Carsington Water, where we also visited during our stay and had a relaxing few hours walking around the water.
Unfortunately the Monday morning on which we were due to leave brought (a lot of) rain, leaving my parents to pack the tent away in the wet weather. An unpleasant end to a lovely weekend!
Have you ever visited Ashbourne or other parts of the Peak District?
