For this years summer holiday we decided to stay in England and visit Swanage in Dorset. My grandparents own a holiday home there so we always have a place to stay and, as we haven't visited in the summer for quite few years, we decided to head there for a week. We always go on our summer holiday with my parents best friend and his two children, but due to my dad having to work certain days we arrived and left two days earlier than them to ensure we got the full week. Therefore the first two days we had to ourselves.
When we arrived at the Sandbanks toll ferry down in Bournemouth the weather was gorgeously warm and sunny. It's a short ferry ride across the bay but my brother and I always get out of the car and go up onto the top deck to look out at the view. When it's sunny it makes for some really great pictures. Once we had reached Swanage and unpacked we headed out to one of the local bars for a few drinks before taking a walk around the town and pier, stopping for some freshly made doughnuts on the way back. It's become a tradition that no matter what time of year we visit (because it's usually February or October) we will always get some fresh doughnuts - they're so delicious. We then ate fish and chips at the Parade Restaurant, which never fails to disappoint with their meals.
The second day saw the sun disappear and we had weather that was more on the miserable side. We spent quite a long time in the amusements and my mum and brother managed to win 36 chuppa chups lollipops between them on the 2p machines - something we'd be eating for the whole week! We went for a bit of a miserable rainy walk around the town and shops but eventually decided that we should head back and pass time watching TV in the flat for the afternoon. We did go out to an Indian restaurant for dinner later on and I had the most delicious Jalfrezi curry. All in all though, day 2 wasn't that exciting.
Luckily the weather did decide to improve, as you'll see in the next post.
Have you ever visited Dorset?
